Don't Take Risks With wet Basements

Unlike a flooded basement a wet basement is easy to overlook due to the fact that it appears to be a less serious problem which sees many less concerned about wet basement clean up. This is mainly because there is often no visible water pools in the basement. Although one may store valuables in this area of the house, the tendency to forget to care for it is high and the results may be costly in the future.

The causes of wet basement may be of a severe nature such as a flooding of the basement caused by natural phenomenon such as a rise in the water body levels or from the results of a heavy storm or extremely heavy rain. This may also be due to broken or blocked pipes, sewage system backing up, broken windows or any other cause that may allow large amounts of water in to the basement. There are however less severe causes of wetness which may necessitate wet basement clean up. These include seepage of ground water into the basement as a result of cracks in the basement. This is helped by soil pressure which forces the water into the basement through such cracks in the walls. The rain water, if falling too near the walls may also seep into the basement causing wetness.

As stated earlier, it is highly possible to ignore a wet basement problem. It is also likely to fail to notice the problem especially if the basement is not frequently accessed. This is the real concern about a wet basement because the damp conditions are very conducive for the growth of molds. The molds will grow rapidly and may spread easily to other rooms in the house. Now you understand why you and your family are not safe so long as your basement is wet. The problem will spread to the rooms you always take care of and get you where you are comfortably living in form of allergy problems and respiratory diseases.
