Hanging Interior Doors

So apparently, we absolutely HAD to get new interior doors – because one doesn't match. Now back me up here guys? Logic dictates we should just replace that odd door with one like the others. Right?

Wrong!

Woman logic dictates that one mismatched door equals buying eight new doors. She apparently got a great deal on them and they arrived at the house on Wednesday. I looked at them and asked.. “ummm so where is the handy man?” She shrugs and says you can handle it! I won't lie. I started to panic. I have never hung a door in my entire life. But the wife had thrown down the gauntlet. My manliness was about to be called into question.. I had to hang these doors.
There was blood. There was sweat. There may or may not have been tears. But I did it! So if anyone else finds themselves in the position where they need to hang an interior door then here is a step by step guide for you to follow.

  1. First you have to remove the old door. To do this take out the bottom screws before the top ones. Always make sure that the door is well supported as you remove that final screw.
  2. Now the new doors need to be cut to size. If your old door was a good fit then it can be used as a template. I was lucky and the wife had ordered exactly the right size! But if you do need to trim them then be sure to cut equal amounts from both the top and the bottom.
  3. Next check that the new hinges will fit in the recesses left by the old ones. If not, set them in the bottom of the recesses and use a chisel to remove enough wood to accommodate the new hinge. Screw the hinges to the door frame with just one screw and open the hinges. Prop the door in it's frame and use a pencil to mark the top and bottom of the hinge onto the door.
  4. Unscrew the hinges from the door frame and line them up with the pencil marks on the door. Draw around the hinge and use the chisel to remove the wood from inside the template.
  5. With the door supported at right angles to the frame and fix the hinge flaps to the door frame and affix with one screw in each hinge. Check to see if the door opens and closes and if no adjustments are needed you can screw in the remaining screws.
  6. Finally affix the handle.

Replacement Doors

If you plan to make some changes in your home, you may decide to install an arch instead of a door. You should first weigh the advantages and disadvantages which come with an archway.

Every adjustment you make in the home requires prior, accurate reflection and deliberation. Including replacing a door with a round arch. You do not act rashly, but think carefully about what are the benefits of a door that has not got a circular arc, and vice versa.

Door with round arch replacement

If you want to replace a door with an arch, then you have, first and foremost a visual advantage. A round arch looks stylish and can be adapted perfectly to the interior. A decorated arch can make an old-fashioned living room look stylish. An arched stone fits into a Mediterranean ambience. Furthermore, a circular arc, of course, has the advantage that the tedious opening of doors is eliminated. This is especially for young parents, often with a baby in her arms in the household handle. For you it is obviously easier if no door is an unnecessary obstacle. Further, arches are very well need no doors for wheelchair users and elderly, walking aids. Again, the life is simplified.

Doors instead of door-less openings

Of course, a door has a round arch over benefits. For example, a door can be locked so children kept away from sources of danger. Next, a door provides more privacy - a locked door is a clear signal. A circular arc, however, can be closed by more than a curtain. In addition, a door has a saving effect compared to a circular arc: The door closed, less air passes through an arch and then the heating with closed doors, much more effective and cheaper than a round arch.

All that you need to know about black mold cleanup

Mold as the dictionary would tell us is a fungus that produces a superficial growth on various kinds of damp or decaying organic matter. There are several household fungi that take place after a while and some of them actually possess a name! They are Stachybotrys, Aspergillum, and Cladosporium. They are different in their working process and do not possess the same decaying process but they have one thing in common: they are all injurious for your health and they can leave horrifying results in ones’ family. The most shocking thing is that they cannot only be found in dirty places, they hover around the apparently clean houses as well.

Just as there’s a reason behind everything, household fungus also has its reason. The most common sources are hidden wall leaks, undiscovered roof leaks, water intrusion of any kind, like pipe leakage, uncurbed humidity etc. One of the molds is the Black mold, which is commonly known as toxic mold. As the name suggests, it is actually dangerous enough to cause some serious trouble to the people living in the house.

Blackmold is very dangerous and should be immediately taken care of by a mold cleanup specialist if noticed. One can only imagine the hazardous problems these molds can produce. The first symptom of having household fungus is having musty doors. The symptoms that can tell you or show you that you have or might have mold in your home are: dry cough, burning eyes and skin rashes. If you already have them, you cannot afford to waste anymore time. Call a professional to help take care of your mold problem. You just might be lucky if you make that call immediately. You could save yourself a whole lot of money. The team would inspect the house properly with care and do the necessary tasks in order to get rid of those molds. They usually carry out their job in three different steps, inspecting, testing and then the removal process. The team is specialized and they put on their special gear like goggles, gloves, safety breathing masks so that they remain safe while they get rid of those unwanted creatures. As they are highly trained to prevent the spreading of those molds, eventually the house becomes mold free and safe for better living. These black mold can cause serious trouble and black mold cleanup is very much necessary to avoid unwanted diseases in the house.

Don't Take Risks With wet Basements

Unlike a flooded basement a wet basement is easy to overlook due to the fact that it appears to be a less serious problem which sees many less concerned about wet basement clean up. This is mainly because there is often no visible water pools in the basement. Although one may store valuables in this area of the house, the tendency to forget to care for it is high and the results may be costly in the future.

The causes of wet basement may be of a severe nature such as a flooding of the basement caused by natural phenomenon such as a rise in the water body levels or from the results of a heavy storm or extremely heavy rain. This may also be due to broken or blocked pipes, sewage system backing up, broken windows or any other cause that may allow large amounts of water in to the basement. There are however less severe causes of wetness which may necessitate wet basement clean up. These include seepage of ground water into the basement as a result of cracks in the basement. This is helped by soil pressure which forces the water into the basement through such cracks in the walls. The rain water, if falling too near the walls may also seep into the basement causing wetness.

As stated earlier, it is highly possible to ignore a wet basement problem. It is also likely to fail to notice the problem especially if the basement is not frequently accessed. This is the real concern about a wet basement because the damp conditions are very conducive for the growth of molds. The molds will grow rapidly and may spread easily to other rooms in the house. Now you understand why you and your family are not safe so long as your basement is wet. The problem will spread to the rooms you always take care of and get you where you are comfortably living in form of allergy problems and respiratory diseases.
